Qu'est-ce que l'analyse thermogravimétrique de l'humidité ?
La teneur en humidité influence le poids, la densité, la viscosité, l'indice de réfraction et la conductivité électrique d'un matériau. Les méthodes d'analyse de la teneur en eau tendent à exploiter une ou plusieurs de ces propriétés physiques ou chimiques. Les mesures directes portent sur la présence de l'eau elle-même, soit par son élimination, soit par une interaction chimique. L'utilisation d'un analyseur d'humidité thermogravimétrique permet de mesurer directement la teneur en eau d'un échantillon en utilisant la technique de la perte à la dessiccation (PDS). Cette dernière mesure le poids d'un échantillon avant et après une procédure de séchage et utilise le delta de poids pour déterminer le pourcentage d'humidité en tant que poids éliminé par le processus de séchage par rapport au poids initial de l'échantillon.
En règle générale, ce processus se déroule dans un four de séchage avec un équilibre pour déterminer le poids initial et final de l'échantillon et utiliser un calcul mathématique simple pour déterminer le taux d'humidité ([poids initial - poids final]/poids initial). Ce processus prend généralement plusieurs heures et est sujet à des erreurs de la part de l'utilisateur. Un analyseur d'humidité fonctionne sur le même principe, mais il s'agit d'un système automatisé qui utilise un élément chauffant contrôlé par microprocesseur et un analyseur réunis en un seul appareil ; l'utilisation d'un tel appareil permet de mesurer la teneur en humidité d'un échantillon en quelques minutes plutôt qu'en plusieurs heures.
