Qu'est-ce que la stérilisation à la vapeur ?
La stérilisation à la vapeur utilise un stérilisateur à vapeur, ou autoclave, pour éliminer toutes les formes de vie microbienne — champignons, bactéries, virus et spores. Elle stérilise surfaces, liquides, médicaments et composés comme les milieux de culture biologiques.
Le procédé se déroule dans des conditions définies : pression de vapeur de 1 à 5 bar et température de stérilisation entre 100 et 150 °C.
Paramètres de stérilisation courants :
- 121 °C pendant 15 à 20 minutes
- 134 °C pendant 3 à 5 minutes
Ces paramètres normalisés garantissent une élimination efficace de la vie microbienne et répondent aux exigences strictes de stérilisation dans diverses applications.

Quels sont les avantages d'un générateur de vapeur situé hors de la chambre de pression ?
La vapeur peut être produite par des éléments chauffants situés à l'intérieur ou à l'extérieur de la cuve sous pression de l'autoclave. Lorsqu'il est extérieur, le générateur de vapeur reste intégré au corps de l'autoclave. Cette configuration offre plusieurs avantages :
- Bien meilleur contrôle du procédé
- Temps de montée en température plus rapide
- Possibilité de tirer le vide pour une élimination à 100 % de l'air, notamment pour stériliser les objets creux et les déchets
- Le générateur de vapeur externe a un volume plus faible et ne nécessite souvent pas de tiers pour la validation annuelle
- Cuve sous pression plus facile à nettoyer
Qu'est-ce qu'un préparateur de milieux ?
Un mediaprep, ou préparateur de milieux, est un appareil très proche d'un autoclave mais conçu spécifiquement pour la préparation des milieux. Le milieu est préparé directement dans la cuve sous pression (agitateur intégré) et peut être pompé directement vers une station de remplissage. Avantages d'un mediaprep :
- Les mediapreps sont optimisés pour une stérilisation des milieux rapide et sûre
- Préparation et stérilisation en un seul procédé
- Le remplissage des milieux de culture peut être automatisé
- Risque réduit de recontamination des milieux de culture après stérilisation
