Wat is stoomsterilisatie?
Stoomsterilisatie gebruikt een stoomsterilisator of autoclaaf om alle vormen van microbieel leven te elimineren — schimmels, bacteriën, virussen en sporen. Ze steriliseert oppervlakken, vloeistoffen, geneesmiddelen en stoffen zoals biologische kweekmedia.
Het proces verloopt onder vaste omstandigheden: stoomdruk van 1 tot 5 bar en een sterilisatietemperatuur tussen 100 en 150 °C.
Gangbare sterilisatieparameters:
- 121°C gedurende 15 tot 20 minuten
- 134°C gedurende 3 tot 5 minuten
Deze gestandaardiseerde parameters zorgen voor een doeltreffende eliminatie van microbieel leven en voldoen aan strenge sterilisatie-eisen in uiteenlopende toepassingen.

Wat zijn de voordelen van een stoomgenerator buiten de drukkamer?
Stoom kan worden geproduceerd door verwarmingselementen binnen of buiten het drukvat van de autoclaaf. Staat de stoomgenerator buiten het drukvat, dan blijft hij geïntegreerd in de behuizing van de autoclaaf. Deze opstelling biedt verschillende voordelen:
- Veel betere procescontrole
- Snellere opwarmtijd
- Er kan vacuüm worden getrokken voor 100% luchtverwijdering, vooral bij het steriliseren van holle voorwerpen en afval
- De externe stoomgenerator heeft een kleiner volume en vereist vaak geen derde partij voor de jaarlijkse validatie
- Drukvat is makkelijker te reinigen
Wat is een mediabereider?
Een mediaprep, of mediabereider, is een toestel dat sterk lijkt op een autoclaaf maar specifiek is ontworpen voor mediabereiding. Het medium wordt rechtstreeks in het drukvat bereid (met geïntegreerde roerder) en kan direct naar een vulstation worden gepompt. Voordelen van een mediaprep:
- Mediapreps zijn geoptimaliseerd voor snelle, veilige mediasterilisatie
- Bereiding en sterilisatie in één proces
- Het vullen van kweekmedia kan worden geautomatiseerd
- Verminderd risico op herbesmetting van de kweekmedia na sterilisatie
