Successful Lab furniture project for CERIA

CERIA-COOVI - Six science classrooms. One laboratory and classroom furniture project.

Two sites. Six science classrooms. One successful lab furniture project for CERIA-COOVI Campus.

Built between 1950 and 1954, the Ceria Campus (Centre for Teaching and Research in the Food Industries) is a fine example of educational and university architecture that is highly representative of that era, thanks to its scale, its precision, its elegance, and the open spaces between the various buildings. The site has expanded year on year, whilst keeping the original buildings intact. It is now a thriving campus, home to six higher education and university institutes.

It is one of the largest campuses in the Brussels-Capital Region. The COCOF, the French Community Commission, operates various educational, training, and research institutions there, serving more than 10,000 students of all ages.

The project involved designing and equipping six classrooms for chemistry, biology and physics across the Jules Verne and Marie Curie sites at the CERIA campus in Anderlecht.

The  challenge:

One of the main challenges encountered during construction involved adapting the existing technical infrastructure within the buildings. The water and gas supply lines, drainage systems, and electrical outlets did not align with the ideal layout for the planned equipment.

To avoid additional work for the client, the furniture was custom-designed to accommodate the existing constraints. This personal and tailored approach made it possible to retain the existing utility systems, avoid any additional costs, and ensure the project schedule was met.

Key Success Factors:

  • A technical and cost-effective solution tailored to the constraints of the public procurement process.
  • The provision of modern equipment meeting the current needs of science education.
  • The integration of inclusive solutions with workstations accessible to people with reduced mobility.
  • Great flexibility in adapting the furniture to the building’s actual constraints.
  • Adherence to the budget and deadlines while ensuring a high level of quality and functionality.

Working closely with the COCOF and CERIA-COOVI teams, our Lab Furniture experts translated these requirements into practical, functional laboratory environments suited to each classroom.

Congratulations to the Analis Lab Furniture team for successfully designing and implementing this project. It is a great example of what strong collaboration and practical expertise can achieve.

    PROJECT CONSISTING OF:

  • Fitting out of laboratories equipped with large central tables designed to facilitate collaborative hands-on work.
  • Installation of tempered glass countertops, offering excellent mechanical and physicochemical resistance, particularly well-suited to a science education environment.
  • Integration of electrical, USB-C, and gas lines directly into the furniture.
  • Installation of a teacher’s station with an associated accessible seating area.
  • Design that promotes visibility of demonstrations and educational interactions between the teacher and students.
  • Technical adaptation tailored to the project’s needs
