Are Time-Lapse Multiroom Incubators the Key to Optimal Embryo Culture in IVF Laboratories?
Time-lapse culture is the most modern embryo culture system in IVF. It allows zero disturbance throughout the culture period while capturing all the data needed to annotate embryos without removing them from their culture conditions.
The technology also helps identify markers for better embryo selection, aiming to achieve pregnancy as quickly as possible.
MIRI® Time-Lapse Incubator
The MIRI® Time-Lapse Incubator is a multiroom incubator with a built-in camera and microscope. Designed and made in the EU, it delivers high-quality time-lapse images of embryos developing in real time — without removing them from the safety of the incubation chamber for manual microscopy.
Time-lapse monitoring provides detailed morphokinetic data throughout development, which routine spot microscopy cannot. It captures all key events, helping identify healthy embryos with the highest implantation potential and supporting higher pregnancy rates.

This video presents the Miri TL time-lapse incubator, a device for undisturbed embryo culture with real-time imaging, available in six- or twelve-chamber versions.
It features continuous gas recirculation, temperature sensors, independent gas sampling ports, and optional continuous pH monitoring, with a capacity of up to 168 embryos.
Six or twelve chambers for your MIRI® Time-Lapse Incubator
Features
Completely Independent Chambers

Individual incubation environment: 6 (TL6) or 12 (TL12) separate chambers, one patient per chamber to avoid cross-contamination. Time-lapse in one chamber continues undisturbed even when neighboring chambers are opened. Each chamber can have its own temperature set-point.
Time-Lapse Monitoring

Time-lapse video built from images allows objective, reliable scoring and annotation of embryos, for better prediction of development and implantation potential. The MIRI® Time-Lapse Incubator is a multiroom incubator with a built-in camera and microscope. Designed and made in the EU, it delivers high-quality real-time images of developing embryos.
Heated Lid

Strong uniformity between top and bottom. Heated chamber lids prevent condensation, improve temperature regulation and recovery, and keep temperature uniform between the top and bottom of the chamber.
Fast Temperature and Gas Recovery

The MIRI® TL offers fast recovery:
Temperature recovery <1 min
Gas recovery <3 mins.
Easy External Gas and Temperature Validation

Gas sampling ports for each chamber and independent PT-1000 sensors allow external quality evaluation of gas levels and temperature in each chamber.
Superior Gas System

A built-in tri-gas mixer, an advanced gas regulation system and HEPA-VOC filtered recirculation allow precise gas control and lower gas consumption.
UV sterilization of the recirculating gas ensures the biological safety of the embryos.
User Friendly Interface

Touchscreen control panel with an intuitive menu to manage the device configuration.
MIRI® TL Datalogger
Continuously monitors and records gas flow, gas concentration and pressure, and temperature regulation.
The CultureCoin®

Specially designed culture dish, the CultureCoin, allows each chamber to culture 14 embryos, giving a total capacity of 84 embryos for the TL6 and 168 embryos for the TL12.
Continues pH Monitoring

Optional SAFE Sens integration for continuous pH monitoring without opening the chamber.
MIRI® TL Viewer Software and MIRI® TL Server

The MIRI® TL Viewer software helps users process data from the MIRI® TL6 and TL12 multiroom IVF incubators, with a full patient database. It assigns a unique ID to each patient, supports annotation and comparison of embryo development, plays time-lapse videos, and shows incubator status and alarms.
These tools let embryologists review, annotate and compare embryo morphokinetics and export data for retrospective analysis. The Assist function registers the first three divisions automatically — a feature unique to the MIRI® TL. The software also lets embryologists add or edit events and sub-events.
AI-Powered CHLOE EQ™: Decision Support for Reproduction
Esco Medical has partnered with Fairtility's AI-powered CHLOE EQ (Cultivating Human Life through Optimal Embryos) as decision support for the Miri Time-Lapse Incubators. The collaboration brings AI to embryo monitoring in IVF for more precise, efficient assessment. Watch our short video to see how AI can support reproductive care.
Simple Guide on how to operate the MIRI® TL
I. CultureCoin® Preparation
The Esco Medical CultureCoin® is an IVF culture dish designed for the MIRI® TL time-lapse incubators. It is single-use and gamma-sterilized, with oxygen-plasma-treated surfaces to prevent bubble formation. Its ergonomic design lets embryologists load up to 14 embryos and handle them safely inside the incubator. Each culture well has a 300 µm optically clear area optimized for microscopy.

1. Prepare the CultureCoin®, media and oil the day before loading the embryos.
2. Before loading media and oil, pre-equilibrate the following in a humidified incubator:
The culture media and the CultureCoin® for 4 to 6 hours
The overlay oil for 1 to 2 days.
3. Always work inside an IVF workstation. Load the CultureCoin® with 25 µl of media under the microscope. Do not inject media directly onto the bottom of the well.
4. Fill along the well wall and remove any visible bubbles from the media with a stripper tip.
5. Cover the media with 3 to 3.5 ml of pre-heated oil.
6. Place the covered CultureCoin® in an incubator and leave it more than 12 hours to equilibrate.
II. Loading of Embryos

1. After equilibration, check the culture wells for air bubbles and remove any with a stripper tip.
2. Load the embryos into the center of the filled microwells with a plastic stripper tip.
3. Place the embryo at the center of the well.
4. Then carefully place the loaded CultureCoin® into an empty MIRI® TL chamber.
5. Select the patient, choose the active positions, and start the time-lapse when ready.
III. Embryo Annotation

1. On the MIRI® TL Viewer home screen, select TimeLapses and find the patient to open the videos. A revolver view shows the time-lapse video of each of the 14 wells in the CultureCoin®.
2. Select an embryo to annotate; it is enlarged at the center. The annotation system is built around the events shown on the left of the wheel.
3. You can also use the ASSIST tool to annotate the first four cleavage events automatically.
IV. Selecting the Most Viable Embryos

1. After annotating all embryos, the MIRI® TL Viewer software offers advanced tools to help evaluate and select the most viable embryo.
2. The Compare tool shows two embryos side by side. Their videos can play independently or in sync for comparison.
3. The Summary tool compares all embryos graphically, showing developmental timings and which embryo tracks closest to the ideal.
4. Once you have decided, click the green check icon in the top-left corner. A drop-down list of statuses appears.
5. Assign a color per well to mark the decision: green for transfer, red for discard, blue for freeze. A colored ring appears around the well. You can also click the Dish Map icon to map the decisions visually.
