Fridges, Freezers & Ultra-Low Temperature Freezers (-80 °C)
Fridges, freezers, and ultra-low temperature (ULT) freezers rely on compressor-based technology to ensure stable and reliable temperature control.
Choosing the right solution depends primarily on what you store and how long you need to store it.
Analis distributes:
- Gram Bioline refrigerators and freezers – ideal for laboratory, pharmaceutical, and healthcare applications
- Esco Lexicon ultra-low temperature freezers – designed for long-term storage of critical biological samples at -80 °C
Our portfolio supports laboratories across the Benelux region, combining performance, reliability, and compliance with European standards.
What Is the Difference Between a Household and a Laboratory Refrigerator or Freezer?
Household refrigerators and freezers are not suitable for professional laboratory use, especially when storing temperature-sensitive materials.
A common misconception is that all refrigerators perform the same. In reality, temperature performance is the key differentiator.
There is never just one temperature inside a refrigerator or freezer. Two critical parameters must be considered:
- Spatial temperature deviation (temperature homogeneity)
- Temperature variation over time (temperature fluctuation)
Laboratory refrigerators and freezers are specifically designed to control and document these parameters. They also offer features such as access ports for probes, continuous temperature monitoring, and configurable alarm limits.
Typical applications include the storage of biological samples, medicines, vaccines, reagents, and chemicals.
Medicines and Vaccines Storage
When storing medicines and vaccines, temperature stability and homogeneity are mandatory.
Compliance with DIN 58345 is typically required for laboratory refrigerators used in pharmaceutical and healthcare environments.
For internal configuration, ABS or aluminium drawers are commonly preferred for durability, hygiene, and ease of cleaning.
Storage of Explosive Chemicals
For explosive or volatile chemicals, especially in ATEX zones, only ATEX-compliant refrigerators or freezers should be used.
Ideally, the equipment should comply with EN/IEC 60079-15, covering electrical apparatus for Category 3, Zone 2 environments where explosive gas atmospheres may occur.
Cooling Samples in GMP Environments
In GMP-controlled areas, temperature performance requirements are often more stringent than in standard laboratories.
Not all brands are suitable for these conditions.
In addition to performance, the availability of IQ, OQ, and PQ documentation is essential and often mandatory when installing refrigerators or freezers in GMP environments.
